PINK EYE...OR NOT!

Since early December we have been battling what we thought was pink eye. Katelyn would have a red eye, it would be somewhat "crusty" and would hurt her. We called the pediatrition and since it is so congatious they would just call in a prescription. Well, on Tuesday I get a call from the school nurse saying that Katelyn had pink eye and someone would need to come get her. I immediately called mom, who, once again, dropped everything to go care for my sick child. After getting really frustrated that she has had these Pink eye symptoms for over a month I called the Dr.'s office again. I insisted that someone see her that day. Her "normal" Dr. was not there so she saw her partner Dr. Wiley. We have seen him before and we LOVE him. In fact, I love her regular doctor, but if we didn't see Dr. Shumaker then we would definately see Dr. Wiley. (even Jon was impressed) He was a bit baffled, as the drops she had been on should have cleared it up- he wrote her another prescription but also wanted her to see an opthomoligist the next day. So yesterday we went to see Dr. Nicola, who was super nice and she diagnosed Katelyn with Chronic Dry Eye and told us what to do to treat it and PREVENT it. Hopefully within the next month it will be all clear and it will be a LONG time before she gets another irritation. She said that she could deal with this all her life, for a few years or just this once...it is rare in children and very common in adults. So for now, we know what we're dealing with and how to treat and prevent it as much as possible. She will go for a follow-up in a month. We are so glad Dr. Wiley insisted on her seeing Dr. Nicola. (and by the way, Katelyn is 4'1" tall and weighs 69 lbs. (we also had a LONG discussion with Dr. Wiley about her weight)

TOO MUCH TO CATCH YOU UP ON...

Here is Josh in his 1/6/2011 game. They lost by 1 point. He is # 3

here is Kate and Heston on Snow day # 1 of our big snow

1/10/11--THEY were out of school all week...5 full days

Here are the trees in our yard

here is a snowman Josh built

Here were are cars on 1/10/11

We have counted: # of days the kids have gone to school since December 15th...(missed the 16th due to snow)....3. They are off Monday 1/17 (as am I) for MLK day. So maybe next week we can get back into a routine...a much needed routine....
On Christmas day it snowed. We had 4" of beautiful snow. Dad got his car stuck going to work and had to call a tow truck- Heston told the Tow truck driver "hohoho Merry Christmas" Overall it was a great day-which, if I remember correctly, I have already posted some details about it.
For New Year's weekend we went to Mike's. The kids had a great time and Jon Heston and I gor a lot of shopping done...even for Christmas next year!!
Katelyn started piano lessons yesterday. She paid attention and seems very eager to learn. She is also talking about swim lessons (again) and soccer. Heston is also requesting soccer over baseball so we'll see how that works out. I may put him in baseball for spring and soccer for fall. He calls it soccerball....it's cute.

2 Funny stories

When I started this blog it was my goal to not only to include family that lives far away into our lives, but to hep me remember the cute things the kids do and say. Here are 2 recent examples:

Kate to Grandsherry: GS do you have pictures of family that I can cut and use to make a family bush?
GS: do you mean a family tree?
Kate: NO!! It will be a bush because I can't make a family tree- I don't have any brown construction paper

Recently my "aunt" Darby visited mom's house...she saw Heston and Katelyn playing outside with Callie (the dog) and wanted to get a picture. She goes out and gets them lined up when Heston instructs Callie to "say cheese!!"

We could not stop laughing....

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Well, here we are in the 4th day of the New Year. I have to say that I am ready for some normalcy and a routine with the kids, but I am NOT ready for the next month to go by. In one month from today, Katelyn will turn 6. I am sad, she is growing up fast, but she is the best little girl ever. She is so smart and makes us laugh all the time.
I will post Christmas pictures and recap the holidays in another post, but I wanted desperately to get something on the blog for the new year. Last weekend we went to Mike's house to celebrate Christmas and bring in the new year. We had a great time. I am still trying to find a place to put all the kids' new things and want to thank everyone for your generosity and thoughtfulness this Holiday. We appreciate all the love and support you give throughout the year.
Kate starts piano lessons next week and, thanks to her cousin Grace, she can already play a few songs on the piano. She is looking forward to them. Josh had basketball practice yesterday and has a game on Thursday and Saturday, he is also doing fine. Heston is fine and has shown us he can be a good boy...when siblings aren't around!! Mike kept the older 2 while Jon and I kept Heston with us at a condo about 20 minutes away. Jon and I did some serious outlet mall shopping with him and he was a perfect angel. People literally stopped us to tell us how cute he was or how well behaved he was. I was a real joy to be with him and have some rare quality time with him. The older kids had a great time with Mike and they did not want to leave to come home. We have enjoyed time off and enjoyed time with family and now we are getting back into the swing of things slowly but surely....
Update on eye surgery. I went to get a second opinion and this doctor felt like "normal" lasik surgery would be a great choice for me. I feel much more comfortable doing this and have the surgery scheduled for February 11th. Just pray all goes well. Again, I will post more in the coming days, but wanted to let you all know we are here...until then...Cheers
