Oh my have we been busy. Jon is coaching Josh's baseball team this year and we are busy with practices and such. Heston is all signed up for soccer and has his first game on 4/9/11. Kate is enjoying piano. We all went to the dentist yesterday...well all but Jon...Josh is the only one with a cavity...and has 2 chipped teeth that need about 250.00 worth of work but that is going to wait for now. Katelyn's jaw is "crooked" so we have an orthodontist appointment for April 11th to see what needs to be done about that. It is affecting her jaw growth. I will keep you updated on that situation. Heston also had his 4 year check up yesterday (3/15) and was 3'6" tall...but I forgot to ask his weight. He had 4 shots and was NOT happy. He really cried because he had to take off all his clothes, he cried most of the appointment. He hated the dentist as well...he said "that Man" is not coming near me...he cried through most of that appointment as well.
There isn't too much to tell we have had a good but busy start to 2011. THANK YOU to all who sent cards, gifts and phone calls for the kids' birthdays...they (and we) appreciate it!

6 Months & a God that cares

This is a picture of the Courthouse I work in.
I wish it were bigger, but hopefully you can see how pretty it is.

On March 1. 2011 marked my 6 months of working here in the Hamilton County Courthouse. I am a Probate Deputy Clerk. The benefits are great, the pay is pretty good, the people I work with are nice...overall I can't complain too much. All I can say, is that it is different from being a paralegal. I am used to giving referrals and legal advice and here that is a HUGE no-no. I am now getting used to answering the phones and dealing with the wonderful walk-ins etc. So different than a law firm, where I make appointments and have a receptionist "screening" my calls. ONE THING I LOVE: the hours. When I worked for Jeff, we had a lot of deadlines and late nights/early mornings. Here I come in at 8:30, take a full hour for lunch and leave no later than 4:30. NO MORE WORKING LATE...
One more thing I have learned since my career took a change of direction is that GOD knows best. I remember panicking last minute as it appeared that I may not even have a job come September 1st. As I have spent time getting to know the people I now work with, they have really shown me what a better job I have here in the probate department than I would have had working as Jeff's secretary. I am a county employee, the secretary is a state employee, with lower pay, less benefits, and more work!! The Chancellors attended a meeting concerning a pay cut for their secretaries last week. The consensus: that for every judge there will be one secretary by July 2012. That means one of them has to go by July 2012, which means, it could have been me. Jon and I have been faithful in tithing and even giving above our tithe and truly believe that GOD has honored our obedience and faithfulness. God knew what was best, even when I was ready to fall apart. I am truly thankful that HE can see down the road and guide me in the right direction, because only HE knows what the future holds. I am glad to know someone with that kind of power and provision for my life, especially since it directly effects 4 other people (Jon and the kids). It is amazing looking back over the past year and seeing what all has come to pass and realizing that even The Davis' are in God's loving care.
